Top 10 Cities for Accountants
Steve Berman | LedgerLink

9. Minneapolis, MN
Minneapolis (along with its “Twin City” St. Paul) is a great locale for accounting pros. The city’s one of the more tech-friendly in the midwest, the unemployment is well below the national average and there are 40,000 accountants, auditors and bookkeepers in the area. Minneapolis is also the home of two top-20 accounting firms: RSM McGladrey Inc. (No. 5) and LarsonAllen LLP (No. 19). Those are just a few of the many reasons to take a look at Minneapolis. One more reason: average salaries for accountants are almost the same as in New York, and the cost of living is far lower.
Average Salaries for Accounting Jobs:
Accountant/Auditor: $63,300
Bookkeeper: $36,490
Population: 365,000
Unemployment rate (Nov. 09): 7.0%
High School Graduates: 87%
Bachelor’s Degree or Higher: 41%
Mean Travel Time to Work (in minutes): 22
Homeownership Rate: 54%

One cool thing about being an accountant is that a lot of times you can work for yourself. And after spending a few years in an office, I know that working from home doesn't suck.
