Posted 26 days ago "Tell us a little bit about yourself." I absolutely HATE this question. I don't know what about me you want to know, I could take it anywhere! It's just far too open-ended.

Posted 25 days ago I know, this is one of the questions that just rattles me completely so I try to stay with my profession career answers and sometimes they have asked if I have school age children that would hinder my work hour availabilities.

Posted 23 days ago My least favorite: "Why do you want to work for this company?" or, "What will this company benefit if we hire you?" I need a job!

Posted 23 days ago To the person who said something about potential companies doing interviews..just a helpful hint to you.. IT is AGAINST the law to ask you a specfic question suck as that.. Try looking up your local discrimination laws, Something else that could peak your interests are to google what interview questions are acceptable and legal in nature.. Hope that helps for future references..

Wait, which question? The "Why do you want to work for this company?" Or the, "What will this company benefit if we hire you?"

Posted 19 days ago I think the question about if you have school-aged children is illegal. I'm sure there has to be some law agaist it. You might as well ask if their age will prohibit them from successfully doing their job....lol

Posted 19 days ago Oh, and I also agree with the "tell me about yourself." Sometimes it all just depends on the person interviewing! Some want it a totally professional response all about previous jobs and your education and what-not. Others really do want to feel you out as a person to see if you'll be a good fit for their company. You just have to try to use common sense when answering the question. Don't go into detail how you've been unemployed for a year and really just need a job beacuse you need health insurance because your kids get sick a lot...lol I try to rehearse the question in my head a lot, but I always seem to forget what to say during the interview. So frustrating! :D

Posted 18 days ago One question I hate is when they ask me to tell about a time when I disagreed with a co-worker. Not eveyone has had a problem or disagreement with a co worker. I choose to be there to do my job. I am amicable, but I am not there to make fiends and so I treat everyone the same and I respect that they may have differing opinions. However, if I want to have my own input I do my research and bring it to the table. Let them disagree with the facts, not me. And then on go on to the next thing.

Asking about school age kids is a sneaky way to get around the illegal “how old are you” question. You can’t discriminate against age but if they can find a way to throw a flag and cover it from a different angle then they win. I hate the whole canned interview process; I learned it back in school a long time ago. It’s a dance, a minefield, a way to single you out, not include you. These HR types irritate me to no end. Just admit you have no authority to say “yes” and let’s get on with our day shall we? Otherwise, man up and ask me “Have you stopped beating you wife yet?” That one was good enough for politicians, it should work here. |

Posted 11 days ago The one question that catches me off guard: Why do you feel you are the best canidate for this position? This could have many answers and if the future employer doesn't like your answer you don't get the job. Very frustrating

Posted 1 day ago I hate the question "Name a time when . . . . " so you're forced to go through your entire work history in your brain with a table full of people sitting there staring at you while you try to think of the one time in your life you had a disagreement with a coworker and what became of it. I really don't do well at all in the pre-canned question interviews. I'm much more effective in meeting with one or two people and having a frank discussion over my resume and discussing my job qualifications instead of trying to think of answers to questions like that.

Posted about 10 hours ago In the 2 replies about the interview question, "name a time you disagreed with a co-worker," you really don't have to list out all the time you've disagreed. If anything, name only one or two examples, and explain how you solved it. Did you have to compromise? Were one of you wrong, and if so, how did you solve it? To me, that question merely asks how you deal with conflicts, and whether you work well as a team. Listing all the cases you've had conflicts with will only hurt you: you would sound like an incooperative individual.
