8 IT Companies Hiring Right Now
Jose Fermoso
Apple, Inc.
ABOUT

Apple designs and manufactures popular consumer gadgets and computer software products, including the iPhone and the Mac line of laptops and desktops. Apple has more than 35,000 employees worldwide and, beyond the regular industry expectations of efficient productivity and innovation, it has an overriding philosophy of “clean,” aesthetically pleasing user interfaces and industrial design.
The company’s design focus has been heavily — and successfully — promoted by its advertising arm, especially since CEO Steve Jobs returned to the company in the mid-90s and even more so since the launch of the iPhone. This combination of innovative design and advertising has made the company one of the “most admired” in the U.S., according to Fortune magazine.
As the company has grown in the last decade, it has expanded into chip design (through the AP Semi acquisition), media downloads (iTunes), streaming (LaLa acquisition), and cloud computing.

THE RECESSION AND KEY DATA
Even though Apple has become increasingly dependant on a robust consumer economy, it has so far been completely recession-proof. Apple’s stock recently hit a high of $215.04 per share, up from its previous record of $202.96 back in 2007. Compared to another giant tech company, Google, this looks pretty good: The GOOG dropped 6 percent year-over-year while Apple was earning more than $9.06 billion in revenue and $1.66 billion in profits in the last full cycle, according to the WSJ.
Last year, Apple sold 2.22 million Macintosh computers (down 3% from a year ago) and sold 3.79 million iPhones (up 23%). Apple says it expects revenue between $7.7 and $7.9 billion for the next quarter.
WORKING HERE
From the company:
“If you love innovation, here’s your chance to make a career of it. You’ll work hard. But the job comes with more than a few perks. If fulfillment, inspiration, adventure, and advancement are your kind of perks, we’d love to hear from you.”
From current workers:
Pro:
“Interesting work in most areas (very little dull routine).”
“Outstanding opportunity to work with really smart people in your field.”
“You will not know if you really “fit” the culture until about a year on the job."
Con:
“Way too much secrecy.”
“Tough to advance, it seems they don’t hire management from within, even if the employees have management experience.”

I would like to comment on the HP reference, As a current HP employee, I agree with the pros, and the con of the bonus. But as for management and workforce, I think its a case by case basis. My manager is great and his manager seems to be reasonable as well. As for Demorlized, I took a pay cut as well as a ton of other workers, but I dont think its affecting us as bad, in fact because we are not demoralized we can get compensated for the work through a second bonus opportunity.
Bottom Line: HP is a good first and 3rd job, great entry level experience to move on, and they pay well for senior management.
