The Best Women-Run Blogs

The Best Women-Run Blogs

Nealeigh Mitchell | Excelle

There are millions of blogs out there — how do you find ones worth your time? Sure, the number of Twitter followers is a good gauge of popularity, but there are plenty of exceptional reads flying under the radar.

Whether writing about career advice, female empowerment or daily drama, here’s a list of 10 women-run blogs we love.

1) Penelope Trunk’s Brazen Careerist:
Pro-life author and career advice columnist Penelope Trunk offers Gen Y a roadmap to the corner office with her highly relatable and sharply written content. Building on the blog’s popularity, Trunk launched the Brazen Careerist website, a social network focusing on career development and workplace issues.

2) She Takes on The World:
This is one of the best business and lifestyle blogs for women entrepreneurs and working professionals. A sharp team of female editors from a variety of business backgrounds dish out on-the-job advice and career tips. Check out the “In Her Heels” interview series for a heavy dose of entrepreneurial inspiration.

3) Girl With Pen:
This hard-hitting blog publicly and passionately dispels modern gender myths, encouraging other feminist scholars, writers, and thinkers to do the same. Deborah Siegel and co. provide feminist commentary on everything from politics to pop culture.

4) Dooce:
Heather Armstrong put the confession in confessional blog. Shooting to stardom after getting fired for writing about her co-workers (getting “dooced” means to get canned for blogging), she now runs — and lives off of — one of the most entertaining “parenting” blogs around. Her sassy-mouthed musings on marriage, post-partum depression, and daily drudgery inject humor into the mundane.

5) Self-Made Chick:
Christine O’Kelly ditched the cube and pursued the entrepreneurial dream. Now the stay-at-home mom and online copywriter has created a place for like-minded, business-savvy free thinkers to meet and share advice and stories.
